OrthAlign, Inc. is committed to
improving the standard of care in orthopedics surgery by
providing simple, precise solutions for joint
alignment. Our KneeAlign™ system focuses on total knee arthroplasty (TKA), also
known as total knee replacement, a procedure that is
performed over 600,000 times a year in the United
States.20 However, approximately 31% of TKA procedures
are poorly aligned.21 Over time, poor alignment
(also described as malalignment) can lead
to knee implant failure, causing pain and requiring
revision surgery.
Over the past decade, large
console computer–assisted surgery systems have been shown to significantly reduce the
incidence of poorly aligned knee implants. However, only
about 3% of TKA procedures in the United States
currently use computer-assisted surgery systems.22 This
low adoption rate is due to a variety of factors,
including extended learning curves, longer operative
times and expensive capital equipment.
The KneeAlign™ system is equivalent to large console
computer-assisted surgery systems in the precise
measurements that enable tibial implant alignment. Unlike large console
computer-assisted surgery systems, the KneeAlign™ system
allows the surgeon to make these measurements in a
simple, user-friendly procedure. The KneeAlign™
navigation unit is about the size of a smartphone.
